Most Common Vibrator Myths

We get lots of questions about vibrators and hear all sorts of harmful myths about them too.

Vush resident sexologist Steph gives us the facts on the most common vibrator myths out there...

Myth: Vibrators are for single people.
First of all, it’s healthy for all people to have their own individuality sexuality alongside a sex life they share with their partner/s. Secondly, it’s completely normal (not to mention easy and lots of fun) to add vibrators into partnered sex, such as an external vibrator during intercourse.

Myth: Vibrators desensitise your clitoris.
Just like a vibrator wouldn’t kill all the nerve endings in your hand if you used it there, a vibrator won’t desensitise your genitals or impact your nerves. Any numbness from vibrator use is always temporary - we recommend taking a break in this case.

Myth: Vibrators are unhealthy/bad for you.
Actually, it’s the opposite. Masturbation is a healthy part of your wellbeing, just like exercise, sleep and diet. Orgasms actually have a bunch of health benefits including improving sleep, boosting mood, reducing stress, and alleviating pain and cramps.

Myth: Vibrators are only for people with vulvas.
People with penises (and intersex variations) can also use vibrators in a variety of ways, such as on the frenulum, tip, or scrotum. Vibrators can also be used all over the body, not just on the genitals, for example, the nipples, neck, or booty!
